With the festive season kicking off, our healthy habits can slide a little in the wrong direction. Working out how to stay healthy with parties to attend, delicious food to be eaten and most likely a few too many cocktails to be drunk can be a difficult task. Being healthy doesn’t mean you have to avoid all these things. It’s all about balance and moderation.

Here are my top 5 tips for staying healthy during the holidays.

1. Hydrate

water with cucumber

It might not be our Christmas drink of choice, but drinking enough water is so important to keep you feeling healthy and energized throughout the festive season. Water has incredible health benefits from boosting your metabolism, carrying important nutrients around the body and the best one of all, making your skin glow.

Buy yourself a drink bottle from Rebel Sport to help you stay hydrated and you’ll receive 5.60% cashback.

2. Control your Alcohol Intake

Alcohol is literally like drinking empty calories as it is loaded with sugar. That doesn’t mean that you have to avoid them all together though… stay clear of creamy cocktails and stick with drinks like vodka, lime and soda which has far fewer calories. Also remember that not every drink you consume at a party has to be alcoholic. Throw in a few non-alcoholic drinks such as a glass of sparkling water with a wedge of lime and some mint or cucumber for a refreshing change.

3. Keep Active

Plan to move every single day even if it is just for 20 minutes. Maintaining your exercise routine will keep you feeling positive and motivated to want to stay fit and healthy. Dust off those cobwebs and exercise in the morning after a late night. It will help you to feel so much more energised and ready to go for the day ahead.

Stock up on activewear at Lorna Jane and receive 3.50% cashback.

4. Balance your Meals

If you have an event to attend balance out the rest of your meals that day so that they are healthy and light. If you’re attending a dinner where you know you are going to be eating a three course meal opt for a lighter. That way you will be able to enjoy the food at the event without leaving feeling over full.

Stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables at Woolworths and receive up to $20 cashback.

5. Position yourself away from the food table

When attending an event where there is a buffet or grazing table, make sure to position yourself in the room so you are not standing next to it. This means that you will need to make a little extra effort to take yourself over to the table instead of being about to continuously pick at the food without realising how much you have eaten.

If you can manage these 5 tips to stay healthy during the festive season – staying hydrated, controlling your alcohol intake, keeping active, balancing your meals and resisting the treats table, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to start the new year feeling fit and guilt-free. Cheers to that!
