Four Irish-inspired drinks to celebrate St Patrick’s Day

What’s the craic?!

March 17 is fast approaching, which means it’s time to paint the town green! Whether you’re marching in your local parade or having your Irish friends and family around to your place, Cashrewards has got the drinks sorted!

The Little Leprechaun

A traditional icon of the holiday, the Leprechaun stemmed from the Celtic’s belief in fairies. They were tiny men and women who had magical powers and protected their fabled pot of gold. Inspired by these historically devious creatures, this drink will surely be worth its weight in gold.

  • Ice
  • Vodka(2 shots or 60mL)
  • Blue Curacao (1 shot or 30mL)
  • Lemon-Lime and Bitters (30mL)
  • Orange Juice (120mL)

Fill a pint glass with ice. Add the Vodka, Blue Curacao, and a splash of Lemon-Lime Bitters. Finally, fill the rest of the glass with orange juice. Stir and enjoy!

The Shamrock Sour

Inspired by the three-leaved clover (also known as a Shamrock), this is a festive take on a classic cocktail. This green whiskey sour is sure to become a quick St Patrick’s Day favourite. Another iconic symbol of the Irish, the shamrock is a sacred plant in ancient Ireland, its presence often symbolised the rebirth of spring. Later on, the three-leaved clover became a political symbol worn by many Irish people to show their displeasure with English rule.

  • Lime Juice (30mL)
  • Lemon Juice (10mL)
  • Simple Syrup (60mL)
  • Irish Whiskey (60mL)
  • Green Food Colouring (1 drop)
  • Lime wedge for garnish

Combine all ingredients, shake well, and strain over ice. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy.

We recommend using Jameson to get the authentic flavour!

The Irish Coffee

This traditional Irish recipe is the perfect way to celebrate Ireland’s patron saint. Different variations on the coffee-based cocktail make it hard to trace the origins of the now-classic beverage. This historic cocktail is the perfect start to any St Patrick’s Day brunch or midday celebration.

  • Hot freshly brewed coffee (1 cup)
  • Brown Sugar (1 tablespoon)
  • Irish Whiskey (45mL)
  • Lightly whipped heavy cream

Fill a mug with piping hot coffee until it’s about three-quarters full. Add brown sugar and whiskey (we recommend Jameson) until completely dissolved. Finally, top the drink with a collar of lightly whipped cream. Serve hot!

The true taste of Irish national pride! Originating from the Arthur Guinness Brewery in Dublin, this dark Irish dry stout is the drink of choice every St Patrick's Day.

Deriving its distinctive taste from malted and roasted unmalted barley, the iconic stout’s smooth and creamy consistency was created when Guinness changed their historic recipe from standard carbon dioxide bubbles to smaller nitrogen bubbles.

Pour into a pint glass and celebrate Ireland!
