It is a well-known fact now that November has overtaken December as the biggest sales month of the year, due to the rising popularity in foreign sales days. And with the biggest sales day of the year just around the corner, CASHREWARDS founder and retail expert, Andrew Clarke, is predicting sales to be nearly double from last year, dubbing this Friday as ‘the record online sales day of all time’.
Black Friday sales (over four days, through to Cyber Monday) grew by 27% in 2017 and Clarke predicts that 2018 will be the first time that Australia has hit and exceeded a $1 billion online spent in just four days.
According to Clarke, CASHREWARDS sales are set to reach an estimated $33 million, with CASHREWARDS originating 2.5% of the total Australian online retail figure. This equates to an estimated $1.3 billion in total online retail national sales over the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales period. Last year, CASHREWARDS sales were only $18 million, which is an estimated total of $900 million in online retail national sales over the same period.
What this means for shoppers who use an online savings platform like CASHREWARDS, is that with an average Cashback of 6% offered on purchases, people can expect to save over $2 million throughout the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales events.
“Black Friday falls at a perfect time for consumers who are yet to do their Christmas shopping. We see substantial growth year-on-year, have more retailers participating than ever before and for the first time ever, Amazon (which launched last December) is participating, which I believe will make a huge difference to the overall sales,” says Clarke.
According to a survey done by Black Friday Global, the average Australian will spend $263 on this year’s Black Friday. 57 per cent of Australians plan to shop both online and in-store, while 37 per cent will shop exclusively online. In 2017, clothes, electronics and shoes were the most popular products and Clarke predicts a similar trend will continue this year.
“Clothes and electronics are always the most popular categories and I think this year will see cosmetics fall into the mix as one of the trendiest items. They seem to be the categories that people flock to the most when it comes to buying Christmas presents and electronics in particular, are quite expensive throughout the year so people tend to wait for a sale to purchase a new TV, laptop or phone,” says Clarke.
“Popular retailers who don’t usually participate in shopping events, such as Apple and Lululemon, are also getting on board this year, so consumers can expect incredible savings on premium brands that they usually have to pay full price for.”
