There are many travel websites around. However, Expedia is your one-stop destination for flights, accommodation, car hire and activities.
The company has built its global success on its commitment to bringing people the best travel deals from a hoard of travel sites through its metasearch engines.
Expedia was founded in 2002 with its purpose to “bring the world within reach”. Since its conception, it has grown to over 200 travel booking sites in over 70 countries, with a global presence of 24 thousand employees in more than 30 countries as of December 2018.
The Expedia Group’s umbrella is wide with companies such as Hotels.com, trivago, CarRentals.com, Travelocity and many more, all forming part of its wide range of travel and accommodation sub-divisions. Collectively this means that every aspect of travel from planning to booking is covered.
Expedia Cares is a program made up of various components. Working with its global partner Mercury Corps, the company’s social focus aligns with eight of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations. Below are those goals.
Encompassing over 40 countries in Asia Pacific, Latin America, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, the goals of Mercury Corps and Expedia Group are focused on bringing clean water and sanitation, the empowerment of women and girls, education and environment, assisting refugees, and stopping trafficking.
Another element of the Expedia Care program is to match employee donations and have employee-driven committees that help support the local community.
Other initiatives include a ‘Global Day of Caring’. The event is hosted in over 50 countries during the Expedia Group’s ‘Month of Giving’. The event focuses on employees joining together by providing their time and efforts by giving back to their communities.
Another fundamental part of the Care program is to further educate and empower employees. The Global Ambassador Program takes selected employees to a challenged destination and immerses them in the local culture to provide awareness on how the company can support tourism and sustainable living for the community.
With its one-stop-for-all holiday planning as well as its focus on global communities, Expedia has become one of the world’s largest and most trusted travel websites.
